BIOGRAPHY

Maria Casemyr was born in 1983, and grew up in a suburb of Stockholm in Sweden.


As a teenager she started her singing career as a pop and rock singer. Aged 19, she began taking classical singing lessons and later undertook further music, vocal and piano studies at the Culture School Music Institute in Stockholm. In 2007 Maria met bass baritone Curt Appelgren, who from then onward has been her main voice teacher. She also  joined Stockholm’s Opera Studio 67 in 2009.


Aside to her vocal and music studies, Maria is a certified nurse from Sophiahemmet Academy in Stockholm, where she graduated in 2006. For the past ten years, Maria’s main career has been as a professional nurse. Her current position is in Cardiac Intensive Care, and she enjoys her rewarding and life-saving vocation immensely.


In 2010 Maria performed excerpts from the title role of Maria Stuarda at Nybrokajen in Stockholm, and in 2011 she appeared as Adalgisa in a production of Norma, both in Sweden and abroad.


For the past years Maria Casemyr has worked with various Swedish singers and musicians, producing her own concerts.


She is also active on Youtube, performing arias and sharing online courses in classical singing.
